Safety Solutions

Put people first on the floor

Most workplace transport incidents happen where forklifts and people share the same space. A safer site is rarely about one product: it is about the right mix of speed control, detection, monitoring and visibility, set up around how your operation runs. FTM specifies, fits, and maintains practical safety systems across our range of products, backed by our own engineers in South Wales and the South West.

Forklift operating in a busy warehouse environment

Speed Zoning

Trucks can be set to slow automatically in defined high-risk areas (pedestrian crossings, blind corners, loading bays) and run at normal speed elsewhere. Zones are configured around your layout and shift patterns, so safety does not come at the cost of throughput.

Pedestrian Detection

Camera-based detection warns operators when a person enters the working area around the truck, giving an early cue before a near-miss becomes an incident. Coverage is scaled to the machine, from a single rear view up to full surround on larger trucks.

Camera Systems

On-truck digital recording captures what happens around the machine throughout the shift, useful for investigating incidents, supporting insurance claims and evidencing safe operation during audits. Multi-angle setups document the full working envelope.

Safety Lighting

High-visibility spot, arrow and zone-marking lights project a clear signal onto the floor ahead of and around the truck, so pedestrians see an approaching machine even in noisy or restricted-visibility areas. Fitted to suit warehouse, yard and production environments.

Why FTM for safety

Local engineer network

Specified, fitted and maintained by our own manufacturer-trained engineers in Bridgend, not subcontracted, so install quality and aftercare stay with us.

Fits your existing fleet

Safety systems are matched to the trucks you already run, not just new orders. We can retrofit across a mixed Toyota, Manitou, Volvo, CNF and Combilift fleet.

Compliance support

A clear paper trail for risk assessments, audits and insurers: from a written site review through to recorded evidence of safe operation.

Safety lights

A range of visual warning devices that fit to any materials handling equipment and make a moving machine impossible to miss. By projecting light onto the floor (spots, arrows and marked danger zones) they give pedestrians a clear, instant warning of an approaching truck, even in noisy or low-visibility areas. A cost-effective alternative, or addition, to audible alarms.

Light options

Choose the warning style that suits your site. Every option comes in blue or red and in multiple voltages to match your fleet.

Spot Light

Two long-life LEDs project a bright spot onto the floor a few metres ahead of the truck, warning anyone approaching. Runs constantly or only when travel is engaged. Blue or red.

Progressive Spot Light

An animated spot that flashes forward in a line ahead of the truck. The movement catches the eye far better than a fixed spot. Blue or red.

Progressive Arrow Light

An animated arrow that flashes in the direction of travel, a clear, intuitive signal of exactly where the truck is heading. Blue or red.

Danger Zone Light

Projects a bright line to hold pedestrians a set distance back, marking a clear NO-GO zone and guarding against rear-end swing. Distance is fully adjustable. Blue or red.

Arc Light

Projects a curved line around the truck to keep people clear on turns and tail-swing. Adjustable to the distance you choose. Blue or red.

Arc + Danger Zone Package

Combines the arc and zone lights into a large “U” around the front or rear of the vehicle for an all-round NO-GO zone. Fully adjustable. Blue or red.

Active danger zone lights

Our smartest visual warning system. These line-type danger-zone lights switch on automatically the moment someone enters a set distance around the truck, giving operators and pedestrians an immediate cue to stop, before an incident happens. They work on their own or alongside our pedestrian detection systems, with high-power versions for larger plant and ARC trucks. Available in red or blue.

01

Proximity-triggered

Lights switch on the instant a pedestrian enters a defined distance from the truck, programmable to suit your environment.

02

Customisable zones

Set the danger-zone distance from 1.5 m to 3.5 m: tight in busy yards, wider in open warehouses.

03

Flashing alerts

An optional flashing mode adds urgency and visibility in high-traffic or low-light areas.

04

Multi-directional

Fit to the sides or rear of the machine, wherever the risk is highest.

05

Optional audible alarm

Add a loud, voice-activated alarm with six strobe modes and a memory function for an audible warning too.

06

Easy to install

A complete kit: three zone lights, an alarm beacon and millimetre-wave radar, fitted by magnet or drilled mount.

Pedestrian detection cameras

AI-powered detection that helps operators spot people before a near-miss becomes an incident. The system uses machine learning to tell pedestrians apart from objects and alerts the driver in real time to anyone moving, or standing still, in the truck’s working area, showing their position and distance on an in-cab screen. It needs no tags or high-visibility vests, so coverage holds across your whole site whatever the PPE standard.

1 Camera

A single rear-facing camera, ideal for smaller trucks and reversing protection.

3 Cameras

Three cameras for wider coverage around mid-size machines.

5 Cameras

Up to five cameras for full 360° coverage on larger vehicles. Detection range 0.5–15 m.

Driver alerts & upgrades

Choose how drivers are alerted, and add the upgrades that suit your site and fleet.

In-Cab Touch Screen

An IP66-rated HD touch screen, built for continuous use in dusty, humid, high-vibration environments. Shows each pedestrian’s position and distance from the truck.

Driver Alert Display

A compact IP65 pedestrian-hazard locator (DAD) that points the driver to the direction of risk, used on its own or alongside the full HD monitor.

Digital Thumbs-Up

A clear two-way signal between people and operators: a red hand for “do not approach” and a green thumbs-up for “safe to approach.”

Cloud-Based Analytics

Optional reporting that surfaces high-risk vehicles, areas and behaviours, plus real-time asset tracking, giving fleet managers the data to drive safety up and costs down.

MDVR Recording

On-board video recording captures critical footage for analysis, supporting investigations, insurance claims and evidence of safe operation.

Thermal Imaging Camera

Intelligent pedestrian and vehicle recognition for dusty, low-light conditions, with dual-light overlay and split-screen display.

Built for busy sites

One of the most advanced pedestrian safety systems available, designed to lower risk, support target-zero and help keep your people and machines moving safely.

01

Tells people from objects

Smart AI separates pedestrians from racking, pallets and other objects, so alerts stay meaningful instead of constant false alarms.

02

No tags or hi-vis needed

Detects anyone in range without tags or vests, so coverage holds site-wide regardless of PPE standards.

03

Up to 360° coverage

From one rear camera on smaller trucks to five cameras for full surround vision on larger vehicles.

04

Live remote access

GPS/GPRS connectivity gives fleet managers remote, real-time access to cameras and vehicle locations.

05

Continual recording

On-board recording captures the working area throughout the shift, useful for investigations, insurance and audits.

06

Fits any equipment

Robust and hard-wearing, installable on any handling equipment, and works alongside our other safety systems.

The pedestrian detection camera is designed to act as a driver aid and does not replace adequate training and safe driving practices.
