The Challenge
A long-term customer that manufactures high-end products for the car industry was running a fleet of LPG-powered forklifts for its daily material-handling requirements.
Although the existing trucks were reliable, the customer wanted to reduce fuel costs, improve the working environment for operators and reduce emissions within the facility.
Safety was also a key consideration. With forklifts and pedestrians regularly operating in the same areas, the customer wanted to introduce additional technology to help reduce the risk of vehicle-to-pedestrian incidents.
The customer therefore wanted to explore whether a transition from LPG to electric could provide both operational and financial benefits, while also improving workplace safety.
Our Solution
Following a detailed site survey and review of the customer’s forklift applications, we identified which trucks could be effectively replaced with modern electric alternatives.
The proposed electric fleet offered:
- Zero emissions
- Reduced noise levels
- Lower running costs
- Improved operator comfort
- Reduced fuel handling and storage requirements
To complement the new fleet, we also recommended fitting an AI-powered forklift safety camera system.
The system uses intelligent camera technology to identify potential pedestrian and vehicle hazards and provide warnings to operators when a potential collision risk is detected.
This provided the customer with a combination of modern electric equipment and additional active safety technology, rather than simply replacing the existing forklifts on a like-for-like basis.
The Result
The fleet transition delivered a number of operational improvements:
- Eliminated reliance on LPG fuel
- Reduced requirement for fuel storage and handling
- Enhanced visibility of potential pedestrian hazards
- Additional safety support through AI camera technology
- A more modern and future-focused forklift fleet
The customer was also able to demonstrate a clear commitment to reducing emissions and improving workplace safety, which it published through social media and industry publications.
The Added Safety Benefit
The introduction of AI safety cameras provided an additional layer of protection alongside existing site safety procedures.
Key Takeaway
By combining the transition to electric forklifts with modern AI safety technology, the customer was able to target running costs, emissions, operator comfort, productivity and workplace safety.
